Okay, when I say bigger, what I mean is an increase in population. Statistics show an increase in San Jose's population of over 16,000 residents. All who have moved in 2009.
I have, over the last few weeks, met three families moving to the Bay Area and all are from out of state. All are looking for temporary housing as they figure out where the'll want to permanently live, but why are they coming? Why now? Here's what I know, these families are relocating because of their jobs. The employers are located along the 101 corridor going from San Jose up to Mountain View. In addition, the homeowners who are renting their homes are seeing an increase in renters calling them and in lease applications. One homeowner in Los Gatos asked me "What is going on"? She has spoken to several families who are also moving in from other areas because of a job relocation.
Is empoyment going to rev up for the Bay Area this year? Hmmm. All I know is, employment numbers are an indicator of economic trends. And these people will need to live somewhere, so... I'll keep watching.
